Raava

It all started when…

AVHS does not know much about Raava’s past, but we hope that her story can help shape the future for how we help our community and make a difference. Raava was found lying at the AVHS animal shelter doorstep in the early morning.

Shortly after her arrival, our medical team found Raava was incredibly malnourished with areas of sloughing skin, possible fractures, and weakness in her limbs. The vet indicated that Raava was very sick, the next 24 hours would be crucial to her recovery. She was given fluids, medications, and offered small portions of food. The next day, the staff celebrated that Raava made it through the night. As the days passed, she slowly ate food and started her amazing recovery.

She went to a foster home to recover and heal. Each week she would visit the shelter to be weighed and treated medically. She was slowly gaining weight and starting to show more personality each time we saw her. Thousands of dollars have been spent on care, medications, and special treatments as she slowly recovers on the road to adoption.

We are so thankful for the grant monies from PetSmart Charities to support our adoption costs for surgery and medical needs for Raava as well as assisting us with her vaccinations, microchipping and staffing to prepare her for adoption. Raava was an exceptional case with special medical treatments that were necessary to give her a second chance.

Raava is the embodiment of everything good in the world. At first, she was a bit shy but now as she is feeling better, the word “stranger” is NOT in her vocabulary. Everyone she meets is her new best friend!

AVHS is committed to helping amazing dogs, like Raava, but did you also know we have special programs for people in our communities as well? Programs such as Pets in Crisis, Pets without Me, and our Public Veterinary Medical Fund are in place to help you. Whatever the reason, AVHS will help you, coach you, and provide resources to everyone! Please reach out to AVHS if you need help. We are here to listen, and we are here to help in the best way we can. We will steer you in the right direction and identify potential solutions.

We hope we see fewer animals coming to the shelter like Raava and more animals getting the help that they need so they do not end up in a similar situation. As for Raava, she is in foster, wiggling her way into everyone’s heart. We are sure that someone will adopt her.

We need YOUR HELP in caring for animals like Raava and supporting animal welfare in our communities. Teaming together to provide compassionate care and support is more critical now than ever. We genuinely rely on YOUR GIFT to sustain so many of our lifesaving programs. Please consider donating to strengthen our community and support animals in need.
